Fundamentals
of Engineering Exam and Review Course
To qualify as a Professional Engineer, you are required to meet three criteria:
1) pass the FE exam and become an Engineer in Training (EIT), 2) practice engineering
responsibly for four years as certified by registered Professional Engineers
and 3) then pass the Principles and Practice Exam in your particular field of
study.
The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam will be administered on the SMU campus
on Saturday, April 12, 2008. The Texas State Board of Professional Engineers
(TSBPE) will accept applications and fees through March 1, 2008. Applications
and fees received at the board office after 5:00pm on March 1, 2008, will not
be accepted and will be returned to the applicant.
The FE exam is 8-hours long and covers the following topics: chemistry, physics,
math, solid mechanics through mechanics of materials, elementary fluid mechanics,
elementary electrical engineering, computer science, and engineering economics.
The Dean has arranged for faculty members to teach a refresher course. The
course is free to Lyle Engineering students, non-students are welcomed to register
for the course for $300.00. All individuals taking the exam must register
and pay the $120 examination fee online.
